BCRA News

BCA Newsletter 12 has now been published and should be on your doorsteps soon. It includes a "pull-out supplement" containing BCRA news, which you can also read at http://bcra.org.uk/news/#news. Speleology 15 and C&KS 35(3) are both in production and should, hopefully, be issued early in the New Year. Membership renewal letters will probably be posted early next week, just before Christmas. This year, there is no renewal form to complete - you just need to post us a cheque, or pay online. Details in the letter. As you might know, in late 2008, BCRA Council made the decision to scrap newsletters. This decision has now been revoked and newsletters will be produced in 2010. This partly comes about because I will be BCRA Secretary from 1 Jan and so I will be producing newsletters again :-(. We have what is, for BCRA, a "packed programme" of events in 2010. This is largely due to Trevor Faulkner's hard work, and includes ...
  • 6 March - Cave Science Symposium - University of Bristol - contact Trevor Faulkner
  • 7 March - Cave Science Field Meeting - Gough's Cave - contact Trevor Faulkner
  • 17 April - Cave Technology Symposium - Horton-in-Ribblesdale - See http://bcra.org.uk/#techsym
  • June - Karst Science Field Meeting - Derbyshire - contact Trevor Faulkner
  • September - Cave Science Field Meeting - Scoska Cave - contact Trevor Faulkner
  • September - Hidden Earth - Derbyshire - http://hidden-earth.org.uk
BCRA Council is looking into methods of providing more 'tangible' membership benefits. Newsletters are one such device, but we are also considering the possibility of giving members free admission to BCRA events (apart from Hidden Earth), at the expense of an increase in the admission fee to non-members. Whilst such a policy is not yet in place, we are considering whether it will be possible to implement it in time for the 2010 Science Symposium. At the least, we will be considering the question of the fee differential for the event.
