PCB stock

Post by David Gibson » Fri 02 Feb 2007 12:46

CREG currently has four sets of HeyPhone PCBs for sale, and one set of boards for the Pease beacon. To order the HeyPhone PCBs see http://caves.org.uk/payments/creg/items.html#hey and for general enquiries about them, creg@bcra.org.uk

I cannot seem to find any info on our web site about the Pease beacons. I guess you need to enquire to John Rabson at creg@bcra.org.uk

There is some debate, currently, about whether it is worth the investment for the CREG committee to order another batch of HeyPhone PCBs. If it is decided not to order any more, we do have a copy of the film artwork, which someone might eventually get scanned. Please enquire to creg@bcra.org.uk.

That Pease beacon PCB has now been sold. As I understand it, the position is that Brian Pease is not getting any more boards made. The PCB design is locked into using a particular manufacturer.

Brian writes...
The PCB file contains all of the info on traces, holes, board size, silkscreen, etc in a single .PCB file. Perhaps someone in the UK can figure out how to convert it into what is needed for other suppliers. Alternatively, maybe there is a supplier that has already developed conversion software on their own. I have attached the PC Board file. To view it, download the PC board layout software from http://expresspcb.com. You can look at any layer separately, if desired, and get info on individual holes, vias, traces.,etc.

Rob Gill writes
Having downloaded the ExpressPCB software and priced the production of PCBs based on the file emailed by Brian I get a quote for $332 for a quantity of 8.

Me again
So, with VAT, postage etc, that's about GBP 25.00 a set, for eight sets. Id it worth CREG making this investment? Im sure we wont get around to reaching a decision on this for some time.

HeyPhone PCB artwork

Post by Rob Gill » Mon 16 Apr 2007 23:40

Nobody knows where the original artwork has disappeared to, but I paid the the PCB manufacturer to copy the films they had, so I now have the artwork, but it is too precious to loan to people, so its waiting for me to find time to scan it. I have been putting this off till someone asked me for it, so I guess I'll now have to find time to scan it :( . The thing to watch out for, though, is that the scans are not not necessarily going to be 1:1. I did a calibration of my scanner (by scanning a piece of graph paper) and it is not exactly true :(

APOLOGIES!!! That mesage was not from Rob Gill. It was from me. I accidentally clicked on "edit" instead of "quote" when replying to Rob's message and it seems that I have the power to edit people's posts :-)

Rob: do you want to repost your message?

Hi. It's not a big problem if the scanner its not scannig at the perfect size. It is enough (<- is it write like this? :D Sorry for my english) to scan at 600dpi and then to know the exat measure of the finished pcb so it is possible to regolate image and also printer.

HeyPhone PCB art work

Post by Rob Gill » Mon 23 Apr 2007 22:02

Mike,

We will try to scan the artwork as soon as possible. It may take a few weeks or so since the person holding it is on holiday at the moment . The plan is to post it on the HeyPhone web site but of course we can email it to you once we have it scanned.

Thank's a lot. I can downloaded without problems also from site when you publish them. I've realised my own pcb layers because John some months ago tell me that was not possible to have the master image to print by myself but i never realised them because, for shure, something is not correct, it is statistic!!! And i don't have instruments to find if the problem is on pcb or on assemling or on component. If I start from a correct pcb layer i'm shure that it is ok and working, not bad!!!!!

Scans of HeyPhone PCBs

Post by Rob Gill » Tue 22 May 2007 22:44

Hi Mike,

We expect to have high resolution scans of the HeyPhone PCBs on the HeyPhone web page within 2 weeks from now.

You might have to do a bit of detective work to work out which is which (!) but it should be obvious, based on the component layout diagrams.

I'll post a message here when the scans become available. Sorry that it seems to be taking a little longer than we'd hoped.

Best regards
Rob
