The 7th BCRA Cave Technology Symposium will be held over the weekend of 20th/21st April 2013 in South Wales. All areas of cave technology – including surveying, data logging, communication, digging, cave detection, photography, lighting and explosives – are within our remit although the subjects covered at next year’s event will depend on the presentations that are offered.
On the Saturday we will have a programme of presentations which will take place in Tretower Village Hall, Powys, Wales, NP8 1RF. Registration starts at 09:00 with the first talk at 09:30. The Sunday is dedicated to practical demonstrations at various underground and surface locations. We shall meet at Whitewalls, Powys, Wales, NP8 1LG, at 10:00. Whitewalls (Chelsea Spelaeological Society’s HQ) is available for accommodation on the Friday and Saturday nights.
Entry is free to BCRA members and to speakers; for others there is a £5.00 charge, payable on the door, which includes tea and coffee. If you are planning to attend, it would be appreciated if you’d drop a line to tech-sym@bcra.org.uk so that we know how many people to cater for. The weekend of 20/21 April is fast approaching. We now have a number of interesting talks lined up but still need more to make it the great event we are looking forward to.
This is a last call to those who might be considering presenting something but haven’t quite committed yet!
If you have something you’d like to present, please let us know as soon as possible to allow us to make final plans. Please drop an email to tech-sym@bcra.org.uk to offer a presentation or practical demonstration. Remember that there is a very wide brief and the subject of your talk or demo can be anything mechanical, electronic or even chemical(!) that has some relevance to underground technology. It is the variety of previous presentations that has made these events so interesting in the past.

Cave Technology Symposium Cancelled
Please note that the Cave Technology Symposium that was planned for 20-21 April has been cancelled. Hopefully the organisers Mike Bedford and Rob Gill will give you a further explanation in due course.

Yes, with great regret we decided that the event was not viable this year.
We delayed a public announcement for a few days until we'd managed to contact the couple of presenters who had volunteered plus those who'd given their time to organise venue, accommodation and technical support. They have now all been informed.
This is a great shame as the event had been going from strength to strength. Indeed, we had a good deal of interest in attending but very few offers of presentations.We canvassed previous presenters, authors of articles in recent CREG Journals and a considerable number of other people with potentially interesting things to present but to little avail.
With the date fast approaching the only option was to pull the plug to free up venue, accommodation and people's time.
We really believe that such an event should be viable. We really don't understand why it didn't come together this time.
Time for a fresh approach? Maybe someone else would like to come forward and organise next year's event?
