Dave Checkley

For those of our members who have not already heard on the caving grape-vine, I have to report that BCRA's former Chairman Dave Checkley died on 20 February after a long illness.
As well as being chairman of BCRA for five years, up to 2014, Dave had been the BCRA President for five years before that. He made a valuable contribution to our library and heritage activities and will be remembered throughout the caving world for his caving and exploration both in the UK and on many caving expeditions overseas.
Messages about Dave are being posted to BCRA's Facebook page, as well as to the obituaries board at UKcaving.com (where there are some photos). Please go to http://bcra.org.uk and click on the Facebook and UKcaving icons at the top of the page.
BCRA's trustees send their deepest condolences to Dave's wife and family, who supported him throughout his long illness.
