CREG Field Meeting 28-29 October 2017

The next CREG field meeting will be held in the Yorkshire Dales over the weekend of 28th/29th October and reports from regular attendees suggest that quite a lot of activities are already being planned. However, if you attend less frequently, or haven’t yet been to a CREG field meeting, but would like to learn more about cave technology, you’d be welcome, whatever your interest. Although cave communication is a common theme, we would very much like to have as varied a programme of activities as possible. For example, other areas of cave technology that have featured at previous meetings include surveying, photography, cave detection, lighting, rugged computing, and portable power sources, and we would welcome the opportunity to spread the net even wider.

The Saturday evening provides an opportunity for table-top demonstrations or brief presentations. Above all, though, it’s a chance to kick ideas around and, perhaps, sow the seeds of future projects. We’re planning to reserve bunk accommodation in a nearby caving club and other accommodation options are available nearby.

If you’re planning to join us, please inform Rob Gill ( creg-editor@bcra.org.uk ) so we can monitor numbers in the club hut or, if you intend to stay elsewhere, we can let you know where and when to meet. And if you have some interesting new piece of kit to try out, or experiment to try, please bring it along.

And finally, we know that some CREG subscribers don’t consider themselves cavers. If this describes you, there will still be many interesting and useful things to do on the surface. After all, cave-to-surface communications tests don’t go too well if everyone is underground!

We’ll circulate further updates closer to the event. Look forward to seeing you,
Rob Gill.
