BCRA Cave Science Symposium 2010

Saturday 6 March 2010, Bristol.
Presentations of short papers on Cave and Karst Science topics.

This one day Symposium will take place on Saturday 6 March 2010 at the University of Bristol. The meeting will be hosted by Dr David Richards of the School of Geographical Sciences. There will also be a Cave Science Field Trip to Gough's Cave, Cheddar, which is planned for Sunday 7 March (Details to be announced).

The Lecture Secretary's original 'first circular' is at http://bcra.org.uk/docstore/sci/10/WFW424.doc

Each year the Symposium covers a wide range of cave science topics, including geology, hydrology, speleogenesis, speleothems, biology and archaeology, so you should find something of interest at the symposium, whether you are an academic, an amateur scientist or a caver wanting to find out more about the underground environment.

Contributions are invited on any aspect of cave or karst science or caving technology (see BCRA's cave science policy). Poster papers, displays or preliminary presentations by postgraduate and undergraduate students are especially welcome. This year's special theme will be the science and archaeology of the Mendip caves, and it is hoped to devote half the symposium to this topic. Full papers are not required, but submissions to Cave and Karst Science are also invited.

Those wishing to give a presentation should contact the lecture secretary, Trevor Faulkner (see BCRA events diary for contact details). Please give the provisional title of your paper and the type of presentation (oral or poster). Titles and abstracts of up to one side of A4 should be sent as Microsoft Word files by email by Friday 8 January 2010. These should include full first names, contact details and affiliations of all authors, with presenters underlined, and may be extended to include references. Presentations of papers will be 15-20 minutes in length and poster presentations will be 5 minutes in length.

Registration will take place at the start of the seminar. A small admission charge will cover tea and coffee in the morning and afternoon. Further information, including directions to the venue and suggestions for lunch, will be published shortly before the event.

Further information will be posted here before the event. You can check this page via the 'shortcut', http://bcra.org.uk/forum
