I'm planning on visiting these Derbyshire caves/mines and I haven't been down either for a number of years.
Does anyone know of any problems relating to access, rigging, pollution/bad air at the top of Waterfall Pitch etc.
Any current local knowledge would be much appreciated.

No reports of bad air so far this year in Knotlow or Hillocks.
Also, an encouraging report in November from the Environment Agency, who have had a data logger in the cave, that last year there was less pollution than in previous years. So the problem, which only became apparent for the first time around 10-15 years ago, may be on the wane again.
Just be aware that it MAY be present and get out straight away if you find you're experiencing any of the classic symtoms of unusual breathlessness, sudden headache, etc. If you do encounter problems, please contact the DCA Conservation Officer and we'll warn people.
