BCRA Cave Archaeology Group Field Meeting - Recording Historic Graffiti

An introduction to understanding and recording historic graffiti and other marks in caves.

Saturday 4th June and Sunday 5th June in the Yorkshire Dales, based at Lower Winskill Farm, Settle, with accommodation available nearby. The meeting is free, but donations to BCRA are welcome on the day or online (https://bcra.org.uk/bookshop/donate.html).


LOCATION: LOWER WINSKILL FARM, SETTLE, YORKSHIRE DALES.


PROGRAMME

Friday: An informal evening get-together for any early arrivals.

Saturday: Morning session: Introductions and information, talks and presentations.

Lunch: 1200hrs – 1300hrs

Afternoon session: Field trip to Attermire Cave. Maximum numbers 10 or 12. A visit to Victoria Cave might be a useful back-up depending on numbers and/or abilities.

Sunday: Morning session: A round-up and discussion. What has been learnt? Where do we go from here? Shall we do it all again sometime? Somewhere else?

Afternoon (?): Field trip to Victoria Cave/Jubilee Cave

The above itinerary is flexible and entirely dependent on participant numbers and abilities. And there is the vagary of the weather during British summertime!

Accommodation:

Camping at Lower Winskill Farm is available. There are basic facilities, washroom and toilets, no showers. Self-catering, please take litter/rubbish home with you and dispose of it thoughtfully.

Nearby caving hut accommodation is available (currently priced at £10/night) at Yorkshire Subterranean Society (YSS), Old Schoolhouse, Austwick Road, Helwith Bridge, North Yorkshire, BD24 0EH.
