http://cave-registry.org.uk/ svn access denied

Post by Andrew » Thu 20 Dec 2012 12:03

Hello

I do not think that this is anything that I have done, but the repositories are now not accessable without a username and pw, but none of the usernames and pw work, including the admin one?

For example
http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/svn/WookeyCatchment/

gives this error

Authorization Required

This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/2.2.22 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.22 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 DAV/2 SVN/1.6.11 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/5.2.9 Server at www.cave-registry.org.uk Port 80

Although not necessary the cause, the last amendment was to add a user simon, and then in the authz file add simon to the yorkshire group

Hi Andrew,

I'll have a look although I'm not aware of any changes to the server.

Have you checked with Wookey?

When was the last time that you know it worked?

OK, fixed.

It looks like the authz file is fussy and unforgiving.

You added a section which referred to the group @MynydgLlangynidr but that group was not defined. I've commented that section out and it has all sprung back to life. It's a pity an error in one section kills all sections.

 Take a copy of the authz file before amending it.

Thanks, must have accidentally deleted that group, any chance you could create the group for me, I cannot get access on poor internet connection. Group should contain, me and john

lesson learnt, was making copies of password file, not sure, why I did not do the auth file.

How did you spot that?
