BCA Ballot - Check your junk mail

Check your junk mail! BCA has recently emailed its members for whom it has an address to check that they were working in advance of issuing the ballot paper. 6% of those messages bounced back and they will get their paper by post. Several members have reported that the message ended up in their junk...

Re: Brian (Scoff) Schofield RIP

Sad news indeed. He was taken far too soon. The best talk I ever went to at Hidden Earth was given by Scoff and Dave Ryall about there cave diving exploits, serious in parts, hilarious in others. My other favourite memory is a late night sing-song at the Bradford where Scoff lead the song, I can't r...

Why does British Caving need a national body?

There are several reasons why I think we must have a viable national organisation in British Caving. The BCA gives British caving a broadly-based stable platform on which to secure and develop the future of our sport. Whether we like it or not, in this day of litigation, we need insurance. In the ca...

Re: valkyrie caving club

You could try contacting the librarian in the clubs with libraries. Eg WCC, SWCC, SMCC, MCG, BEC

I had a look in the British Caving Library catalogue. Unfortunately nothing there.

I thought the Valkyries were still going, although maybe not since they aren't on BCA's membership list.

Re: Portland

Hi Andrew,

Unfortunately The Caves of Portland is out of print so you are looking for a second hand copy.

It might be worth contacting the Wessex Cave Club, the original publishers.

Re: Testing your files on the new server

For those that don't have easy access to the DNS I have heard tell of a solution that involves /etc/hosts. I've not tried it before now because I've always had easy access to the DNS. It is simply to add a record for the test domain to /etc/hosts or /windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts (on windows) o...

Price Review 1 March 2016

We are lucky in the UK to enjoy some of the cheapest domain prices in the world. That will remain true but they will not be as cheap. From the 1st March Nominet , the official registry of UK domain names, will hike it's wholesale prices by 50%. Unfortunately we will have to pass that cost on. A two ...

Re: New publication - BCRA Annual Review

It is not true that the BCA Newsletter and BCA Handbook have ceased publication.

They are no longer being printed but will be published electronically.

We have a keen volunteer for the Newsletter and several edition have already been published on the website.
