SITUATIONS VACANT: HANDYMAN/ENGINEER

CSCC has LOTS of Conservation/Access practical work to do - mostly little bits and bobs but some big(ish) stuff is looming. The C&A Officer unfortunately doesn't own any tools or possess an engineering company, let alone a garage. Therefore ANY practical work is dependent either on someone else'...

The honest answer is "we didn't go down the second pitch as we had no cause to; however, now the resin is fixed (i.e. from today) it should be pretty simple to safely rig a line for SRT to bomb down and have a look; are WCC ready to gate it at the water level?

14th October 06: Today p-anchors were installed at the second pitch head and also on the main entrance pitch (single anchor rebelay at approx -8m with a deviation at about -11m) allowing either a single free hang of 25m or a split pitch for SRT practice. The rebelay is user-friendly, situated adjace...

Lateral Pitch is now bolted and it should be possible to visit the bottom of TLS via Perseverence Pot, Marble Streamway and Lateral Pitch; there are approach bolts for traverse rigging. Also bolted is Ledge Pitch although the furthest bolt has yet to be resined in (no bolt in situ, just a hole!).

If CC is to have a different lid to the one Frome CG fabricated, what's the possibility of the Frome CG lid being suitable for installation at Coral Cave (the present lid is no longer fit for purpose, being 12 million* years old)?

* This is an exaggeration.

Swildon's Hole, Tratman's Temple path/tape

Anyone got any good reason(s) why Tratman's Temple in Swildon's Hole should not have a small amount of tape installed to delineate a path? Recently cleaning off mud lead to the idea above. There is plenty more cleaning which can successfully improve this stunning part of SH but there seems little po...

I was informed some time ago by Wayne that there is (as was guessed) no right of access to CC by vehicles so permission will be required from the landowner. Problem is no-one seems to know who the landowner is and I'm not sure that standing in the middle of flippin' nowhere yelling my head off shout...

There remains (now unused) fence posts at Star Mine for re-use at Cuckoo Cleeves. There's also some old barbed wire and bits of scrap fencing which needs to be removed from SM. It would be good not to have to use CSCC funds to hire a truck/skip so here's a general request for any cave-friendly perso...

Hillwithy Cave (the muddy one)

At the request of FCQMC (Fairy Cave Quarry Management Committee) who oversee the caves in Fairy Cave Quarry, Hillwithy Cave has been added to the caves which are secured with the CSCC standard padlock. Fairy Cave remains open. Reminder: Hilliers Cave is ALWAYS OPENABLE from the inside whether or not...

Is there a general guideline for geocaching? - a principle ought to be that geocaches should only be placed in locations which are safely reached by standard walkers equipped with their GPS devices; any location requiring specialist equipment or techniques should be ruled out of order.

A "proper cave" is something akin to GG, OFD, Peak Cavern, Otter Hole or Swildon's Cavern. Although I can see where this thread is going and I realise I made an error by using a divisive expression! Apologies offered.

BTW I forgot you were a geologist, Les!
