I happened to bump into John Crowsley on saturday (06-05-06) where he was carrying out a level 2 assesment in Hunters Hole, and told him of your problem. He stated that there were only a few trainer / assesors for level two in the area and he also said that no one had approached him for assesment. I...

There are more than 600 entries in the Devon Cave Registry but I havn't had time to do a more detailed analysis. I would think these are mostly caves but most of these caves will be grotty little holes of only a few metres. (This figure covers some sea caves as well) Almost all of Devons larger cave...

Thank you to those who were helpful with my request. However, it is the examining body who has set this assignment, not the teachers. During my research of various outdoor activities i have found people willing to share their knowledge and promote their sport and encouraging others to get involved,...

You think it strange! I wish I could get hold of the lecturers/teachers who set the projects for them. I get almost daily requests via the BCA website asking: can you write my thesis/ project for me so I don't have to do any real work myself. Always with bad spelling or in mobile text langua...

Re: Who should join the CSCC?

Les, how will you ensure that such a questionnaire actually reaches mendip cavers, apart from the half-dozen who read this site? How, for example will you get it to the ordinary members of my club, without invloving that club in additional expense? Unless you get widespread agreement and support fo...

Re: Who should join the CSCC?

CSCC carries out many functions on behalf of cavers generally. It has many roles, all of which require volunteers. We currently have vacancies within CSCC's officers due to a lack of volunteers! I believe the idea of individual membership is to offer a route to inclusivity at meetings which allows m...

Wot no BCA discussions

Two years in and nobody wants/needs to discuss any aspects of BCA.
Does this mean we have got it right, perhaps everybody is completely content with the national body, or perhaps you have all gone caving.

Re: New lock on Fairy Cave Quarry car park

Cookie wrote: You now need a key to use the car park, so please don't forget to collect one before travelling to East Mendip.
Forgetting the key and having to return to the hut to collect it used to be an ideal caving avoidance scheme!
Under these circumstances a timely reminder is most unwelcome! :D

Access to caves is not allowed on an individual basis, but through clubs .. Whilst this may be true for some caving regions it is NOT true in the CSCC area (eg. Mendip) Individuals can get keys for access to most of Mendips locked systems and do not need to be members of any caving organisation. CS...
