Re: Handbook complete

Just a quick update ... the Handbooks have just returned from the printer, have made their way into envelopes and are awaiting stamps. If you're a Club, a DIM or a Constituent Body, expect yours shortly. Additional copies will soon be available from the main caving shops, from BCA Publication Sales...

Re: BCA Membership Cards

Hi all, looks like it's time for an update on BCA membership cards. Production of membership cards is ongoing, and is taking up all of my time, which is not so good as this role is only supposed to be part time! ........................ Wow. I am impressed! I've long expressed the view that the aff...

The decision that ordinary Club members (CIMs) cannot become BCRA members without upgrading to a DIM is a question you should ask BCRA. It was a decision made by BCRA so, if you are or were a member, or your friend was a member, you were welcome to attend the BCRA AGM when it was discussed and have...

Firstly, a CIM (Club Individual Member) can become a member of BCRA if he first upgrades to a DIM (Direct Individual Member). If your friend wants to become a DIM/BCRA member and has already paid his insurance for this year via his Club, he can state this on the form when he returns it and give his...

DIM versus CIM

A friend of mine, recently, received a membership renewal form for BCA/BCRA. He was a bit puzzled by this, since as a member of a caving club, he pays his sub to the BCA as part of his membership of the caving club (a CIM, in other words). He was further puzzled to note that as a SIM, he is unable t...

Wow. Now I am impressed. I posted my BCA sub off on the 3rd Feb, and I notice that the cheque arrived back in my bank account on the 9th. Such efficiency! I can hardly wait for my membership card to drop through my letter box, in a similar fashion.

Looking on the bright side, I DID get a BCRA newsletter the other day, but since I'm not a member of the BCRA, per se, I'm not sure whether to classify this as a screw-up, or as a bonus. Definitely a bonus :-) BCRA and BCA made the decision to "share" newsletters during this protracted &q...

(Sigh), Well, since Glenn Jones's address doesn't seem to be forthcoming, I have little choice other than to send it to the Great Clearing House in the Sky. There are several reasons why a "clearing house" is used, and why BCA would (Im sure) urge you to continue to use it even if Glenn's...

In the circumstances. I would prefer to send my cheque for this years membership, accompanied, of course, with a correctly filled in application form (Sorry, application form amended to look like a RENEWAL form) to the actual address of the new (acting) Membersship Officer. Please don't. Part of th...

As to the address, since I've been sending my cheques to Lynne at The Old Methodist Chapel, for my membership of the BCA and before that of the BCRA, I'd assumed that this was her address. You assumed wrong. This is BCA's permanent address and is where all correspondence should be sent. Ah, You lea...

Its on the bottom of the application form. BCA Membership, The Old Methodist Chapel, Great Hucklow, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 8RG Cheques should be made payable to ‘BCA’. The application form serves as a renewal form as well, although that is not made very clear on the site. Please send a form along...

Re: 2007 insurance

What's happening? Haven't heard a thing about 2007 insurance (let alone the missing cards from 2006) Ah, having established that I pay the same as last year for my DIM package, all I need to know now is who do I send the cheque to, to ensure that my membership card arrives earlier than July (as in ...

Personally I imagine the task of overseeing the distribution of BCA membership cards is fraught with logistical problems. For instance: To process one card: Applicant's name and address are entered on a list. Presumably needing to check that their address hasn't changed and also to find out if .......

Also, if you think a (mostly) voluntary organisation is "shambolic", why not volunteer and do something to help? I've been serving on committees, on and off for the past 50 years, and I know shambolic when I see it. I doubt it the Government could have made a worse mess of it, alth...
