Thank you, but I doubt that it would be that much better than the one we have now. It certainly wouldn't be free.

Re: UBSS web site

Yes Graham How about scanning in the articles and making them available online.. sheet feed scanners are quite cheap these days.. And I have access to one! However, while we still publish on paper (and there are many cogent reasons for doing this) I'll want to cover the costs by selling off back is...

Dave The simplest thing to do is read Charlie's papers from UBSS Proc . he does give a good account of what gull caves are in one of them. We have published a couple of papers on Sally's & Charlie & Tony Boycott have written a complete description of all the gull caves in the Cotswolds. part...

Quite. The BCA have obviously ignored the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid). They that sow the seed, shall reap the harvest. If you hark back to my initial suggestion, you will see that I have this in mind. I'd go even further and suggest scrapping the non-caver category. (Why in the world do...

Good for you. I too have paid the relevant fees, back in January, but until I have the BCA's official notification, in the form of a membership card, I do not consider myself a member of the BCA, nor that I am covered by the BCA insurance. A view that I am quite sure wiould be confirmed by any lega...

Graham, Am I missing the point here. It is my understanding that in order to be covered by insurance against third party risks, one MUST be a member of the BCA, whether through a club, or as an individual member, AND be in possession of a valid membership card, showing that you have paid the insura...

Perhaps it's churlish of me but I feel the need to point out that membership of my no-frills, but adequate, local gym is £25 per month. What level of insurance do they supply? ;) You are not comparing like with like Chris. Firstly that gym is supplying a significantly greater number of facilities t...

Rod You are right in that the complications of the present system arise in part through the insurance issue, but you are wrong about the cure. I write as treasurer (and de facto membership secretary) of a university club and thus someone who has to deal with all the differing ramifications of the cu...

Insurance?

With Lynne Bailey's resignation, can anybody give some guidance as to how one now deals with updates/changes to a club's list of insured members and how one goes about getting as yet undelivered cards?

Wig should be able to tell you how many sites are in the Mendip Registry and the CSCC access page could then be used to check out which categories they fall into. the Cambrian Registry is soon to go online at http://www.cambriancavingcouncil.org.uk/ I would guess that Goon could tell you the Scottis...

Is there anybody out there?

Had a query about access in the Dales so I clicked on the link to CNCC from the BCA site & got a message saying

No, what would be radical would be to think about leaving the organisational structure alone for a while.

My understanding is that CROW gives no rights of access to the underground. There are a number of reasons why this should be so, largely to the overall benefit of cavers. To give one instance, a right of access to the underground would guarantee that no landowner (of access land) would ever again al...
